| Thursday, January 26 2012 |
This is next article, wich will help our customers to manage his or her virtual servers. The article first step with VPS is very favourite and helpfull for our customers. Becouse installation and administration of Windows VPS is a bit diferent, here is manual for VPS Windows servers. Operation system installationFor installation of your server, it is necessary to sign in to the VPS web administration using provided data at https://vpsadmin.coolhousing.net/
>
Subsequently, the respective virtual server will be displayed. Click on the "Administer" button here.
>
You will find all the information on the respective virtual server in the open "General" tab, including network configuration or an option to change the log-in password to the web administration. For the server installation, click on the "Open Java Console" button.
>
The MS Windows Server installation screen will be displayed (Java has to be allowed). You will select a keyboard and the date and time format here. To simplify matters, you can keep everything as default. If you would like to operate MS Windows in Czech, you can later install the respective language package (see later).
>
Once the selection is confirmed, a summary of discs will be displayed. Here, we can modify disc sections, in accordance with our specific requirements. In majority of cases, nothing else has to be modified and, therefore, click on the "Next" button. Installation wizard will then take care of creating a system section and its formatting to the NTFS file system. Installation itself then follows (it takes approximately 20 minutes).
>
>
Once the installation is completed, a password for a system administrator has to be set. It has to be entered twice, for verification purposes. Once it is successfully set, a confirmation message is displayed and the system is ready to be used.
>
System activationOperation system includes a server license as well. However, this license has to be activated after installation. Therefore, once the system is initialized and the "Initial Configuration Tasks" window opened, select the "Activate Windows" option.
>
We will not enter any number here, we will leave the cell empty and only click the "Next" button. We will be asked if we wish to use the pre-set license. We will confirm again.
>
>
Now we have the MS Windows system fully activated.
>
Allowing the remote desktop protocol (RDP)For the remote access to the server, it is possible to use the native Microsoft protocol, RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol), in addition to a web console or the VNC client (for more detailed description, see this article). It has to be allowed after initialization of MS Windows Server in the "Initial Configuration Tasks" window. Here, we have to scroll down first and click on the "Enable Remote Desktop" selection.
>
Based on the requested level of security, we then select the relevant variant. For access via RDP from lower MS Windows versions or other operation systems, the second selection from the menu: "Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure)" is usually suitable.
>
Setting Internet Explorer Enhanced SecurityIf you wish to browse web sites via MS Internet Explorer on your server, the high level of security via the Enhanced Security function might not suit you. This function can be turned off in the Server Manager window via the "Configure IE ESC" link located approximately in the middle of the screen, on the right side. Set both the options to Off and confirm.

Installation of Service Pack 1For the MS Windows Server 2008 R2 system, Microsoft already released an update package, Service Pack 1. It contains several safety patches and improvements that will provide better comfort and stability of the system. Its installation will be carried out in the web administration menu, VPS Admin, where you will select the Software Installation tab and then "Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1".
>
The system will then automatically open a prompt for initialization of the installation package with updates, Service Pack 1. Click, and the installation will begin.
>
Installation of a language packageIf you wish for the operation system to talk to you, for example, in Czech, you have to install the Czech localization package. For that purpose, it is necessary to access the web administration, VPS Admin, and select the Software Installation tab, and then "MS Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Language pack".
>
After that, directly in the operating system, select Start -> Control Panel -> Clock, Language and Region and select Install or uninstall display languages.
>
After clicking on the link, a window will open and we will select language installation.
>
In the following window, click on the Browse button and select the connected disk D:. It will display several sub-folders with respective language files. In our case, we will select "cs_cz" and confirm.
>
In the subsequent selection, we will check the respective language and confirm again. Once the license is verified, installation will be carried out, and after its successful completion, the system will be communicating in Czech.
>
System reinstallation (clean installation)If you need to completely reinstall your system, you can do so from the VPS Admin web administration. Select the Server Administration tab and click on the "Installation Initialization". A virtual installation medium will be connected within approximately one minute, and you will be able to reinstall the system.
